Lockdown, Day 40: Up and up and up

India recorded its highest jump yet, with 2,644 fresh cases and 83 casualties reported in the last 24 hours. The spike took India's case count to just over 40,000.

In what would have been the final day of Lockdown 2.0, states including Jharkhand and Maharashtra have made it clear they would not provide any relaxation over the next two weeks, even as the Centre has made provisions to slowly get the economy back on track.

The silver lining in India's death cloud, however, is the country's low fatality rate of 3.3%, which is almost as low as South Korea and China.
