Now a days, there is a very very big problem in Postal Department is that the shortage of staff. One of the biggest reason for this is not regular departmental examination. As we all know that the Departmental Exam calendar has been released for the this year. So, it’s important to know the Revised Eligibility Criteria For Promotion of GDS To Postal Assistant.

Before we know the Revised Eligibility Criteria For Promotion of GDS To Postal Assistant, let’s check the exam calendar for the year 2019. 

Centralized Examination:

L.G.O Examination from GDS to Postal Assistant & Sorting Assistant for unfilled vacancies up to 31.12.2018 i.e 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018 (01.04.2018 to 31.12.2018 will be held on 16th June 2019. 

If you follow the above L.G.O exam calendar carefully you will see that after 2014, there ware no department exam has been done. It’s a hope to all of us that there may be a maximum number of vacancy will be notified. 

Revised Eligibility Criteria For Promotion of GDS To Postal Assistant 

The Revised Eligibility Criteria For Promotion of GDS To Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant were Last reviewed and notified by the Department vide letter No. 4-5/2015-SPB-I– dated 05.06.2015. The matter has been examined. The competent authority has now decided to revise the same as per details below:- 

i) Age Limit: – 

The minimum and maximum age for the purpose of Promotion to Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant posts shall be 18 and 30 years respectively as on the date of notification of the vacancy. Permissible relaxation in upper age limit for different categories are as under:- 

1.Schedule Cast/Scheduled Tribe ( SC/ST )-5 Years
2.Other Backward Classes ( OBC ) -3Years
3.Economically Weaker Sections ( EWS ) -No Relaxations
4.Persons with Disabilities ( PwD )-10 years
5.Persons with Disabilities ( PwD ) + OBC 13 Years 6.Persons with Disabilities ( PwD ) + SC/ST 15 Years 

ii) Educational Qualification: –

Higher Secondary School Examination pass (10+2) certificate or 12th class pass from a recognized board or university. With this above eligibility criteria GDS should complete a basic computer course from a registered institution. 


iii) Method of Recruitment: – 


50% vacancy will filled by the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination ( LDCE ) and 50% will be Lower Grade Official Examination ( LGO Exam ) hence GDS to PA recruitment is a direct recruitment Gramin Dak Sevak will compete the remaining 50% post of total vacancy. 

“ Gramin Dak Sevaks are the holder of Civil Post but they are outside of regular Civil Service due to which their appointment will be by direct recruitment.

iv) Service Experience: – 

GDS should complete their 5 year minimum service for appearing Promotional examination of GDS To Postal Assistant. Gramin Dak Sevak of the recruiting division or unit on fulfilling the above condition on the 1st day of April every year . 

v) Revised Pattern & Syllabus For Promotion To PA/SA: – 

There were Three Papers for examinations of PA/SA but in Revised Pattern & Syllabus there are only two papers for Lower Grade Official (LGO) for Promotion to Postal Assistant(PA) and Sorting Assistant. 


1. Paper – I 


General English/Hindi & grammar, Arithmetic and Tabulations. 

2. Paper – II 

There is two part in Paper – II examination. Part – A & Part – B. Part -A is for Postal Assistant & Part – B is for Sorting Assistant. 

i. Part -A: Knowledge of Postal and mail operations with reference to post office guides. 

ii. Part – B:- Postal Manual Volume -VII. 

Important Point:- 

Duration of each paper will be 1 hour.50 multiple choice question in each paper. Paper, I to be of 10th standard.40% marks in each paper for general category and 33% marks in each paper for SC/ST candidate.
