1.Slovenská pošta, a.s., is one of the two major partners who transport post to and from the Ukraine.

April 01, 2022 As the postal operators closest to the Ukraine, Slovenská pošta, a.s., and Poczta Polska (the Polish postal service operator), due to their overland transport links with the wartorn country, are making sure that postal items from the rest of the world are delivered to the Ukraine.

With the suspension of air travel to and from the country, the Ukraine has lost its postal transport links. Slovenská pošta, a.s., uses overland transport links to send postal items to and, mainly, from the Ukraine, and Poczta Polska uses air mail. At the moment, Slovenská pošta, a.s., is responsible for the transit of postal items from the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Germany to the Ukraine. However, you can also find items from as far afield as Australia and Japan. In peacetime these countries used air transport to send their postal items to the Ukraine, however, this means of transport is very limited these days. Slovenská pošta, a.s., dispatches postal items to the Ukrainian city of Chop, where the exchange office of its Ukrainian postal partner is located. As the volume of transit postal items is now four times higher than it was before the outbreak of the war, these days it is necessary for Slovenská pošta, a.s. to despatch a 3.5T lorry full of postal items as often as twice a week.

Slovenská pošta, a.s., is highly appreciative of the selfless service of our colleagues from Ukrposhta (the Ukrainian postal service operator), who through their best efforts strive to provide the smoothest possible national and international postal service. Slovenská pošta, a.s., is making every possible effort to be an active and reliable partner to its Ukrainian colleagues.

2.Evri e-cargo bike trial reduces its emissions by 89% March 31, 2022 Evri (formerly Hermes UK) has revealed its latest move to explore alternative sustainable modes of transport – trialling a new electronically assisted cargo bike – has so far reduced its last-mile carbon emissions by 89%.

The trial is being undertaken by an Evri courier in Driffield, East Yorkshire who is using it to deliver on his usual rounds to ensure a like for like comparison. The savings have been calculated using the fuel saved by not running the courier’s vehicle and then adding back the carbon used to generate the electricity to charge the battery and the extra food eaten by the courier to power it! Adrian Berry, innovation delivery manager at Evri, said: “It is early days as this is one of the first trials into this kind of delivery option, but the results look extremely positive. Moving forward it may well play a role in our goal to create a network of sustainable delivery options to supplement our current courier model.” Source : https://www.cittimagazine.co.uk/news/last-mile-delivery/evri-e-cargo-bike-trialreduces-its-emissions-by-89.htm

3.PostNL issues statement after police raid two hubs in Belgium March 31, 2022 Logistics solutions provider PostNL Belgium has released a statement after the Belgian legal authorities raided and sealed off two PostNL Belgium depots on March 28.

Though PostNL has said that a number of staff were arrested, it has not confirmed which staff were implicated. According to the local newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, the Belgian police arrested Rudy van Rillaer, the CEO of PostNL Belgium.

In a letter addressing the issue, Liesbeth Kaashoek, director of parcels and logistics, Benelux, PostNL, said, “This course of action by the Belgian legal authorities is extremely intimidating for our people, of course, while prosecutor for the employment courts Gianni Reale has used the media to accuse us of “people trafficking”, being a “criminal organisation” and “forgery”.

“There has been no official notification whatsoever of the serious allegations, that are being aired without any evidence. We are totally in the dark as to what these suspicions are based on, making it very hard for us to defend ourselves against these persistent allegations. “We emphatically deny such major allegations, and would point out that the picture being painted does not resemble our daily work practices. As far as we’re concerned, there are no grounds whatsoever to besmirch PostNL’s good name in this fashion, and we consider this action out of all proportion and unacceptable. “The way this situation is being handled raises major questions about the arbitrariness displayed by the relevant authorities in their actions. I should reiterate that, over the past few months, we have consistently provided our full cooperation with the authorities’ investigations and questions, and that no major or structural wrongdoing in our way of working has come to light. Meanwhile, we have further enhanced our controls and taken additional measures to ensure compliance with the country’s social legislation.”

4.Correos Cargo adds cargo charter flights to its service offering March 29, 2022 Correos Cargo, Correos’ parcel and merchandise air transport line, announced that it will also offer cargo charter flights as part of its services. With this new service, the company said it aims to help and promote the international expansion of Spanish companies, as well as the export of their products.

Correos added it continues to adapt its logistics capacity to offer solutions that respond to the increase in parcels related to the rise of e-commerce. The Airbus A330 “Milana Bonita” aircraft, operated by Iberojet, has a cargo capacity of 50 tonnes. “Milana Bonita” was the first of the Correos cargo planes.

It began its activity with two flights to Poland in which more than 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid were transported to supply NGO World Central Kitchen with cooking material to enable hot food preparation for the Ukrainian refugees fleeing the conflict which started in February 2022.
