1.Cainiao rolls out sustainability and consumer experience initiatives this Double 11 November 11, 2022

Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group Holding Limited, has rolled out targeted sustainability and consumer experience initiatives to improve this year’s Double 11 global shopping festival (Nov 11).

Cainiao has expanded its recycling campaign across more than 130,000 Cainiao Post stations this year – meaning nearly four million carton boxes have been collected, with a projection that six million carton boxes will be collected across the shopping event. Cainiao has also partnered with thousands of merchants such as Unilever and Yili Group, involving over 150,000 products, to reduce the carbon footprint of each parcel by 50 g. To improve the consumer experience, Cainiao engaged approximately 100,000 more parttime personnel in the lead-up to Double 11 to expand the reach of its doorstep delivery service. As a result, more than 120 million parcels have been delivered to consumers’ doorsteps, and this figure is expected to exceed 200 million during the entire span of Double 11. Efforts have also been made to strengthen the last-mile delivery network encompassing Cainiao’s self-operated direct delivery services, Cainiao Post stations and courier partners, to instill greater stability and more timely deliveries. Cainiao also launched autonomous logistics robots in over 400 universities inChina to deliver two million parcels (one-third of the total parcel volume in campuses) as of noon Nov 11. For cross-border deliveries, Cainiao used its priority warehouses near the ports to ensure endto-end delivery from merchant pickup to doorstep delivery in approximately 37 hours in South Korea. Cainiao’s 15 overseas warehouses in Europe also helped to achieve same or next-day deliveries within key European cities. For example, in France, goods dispatched from these overseas warehouses were delivered in as little as 2 hours 17 minutes. Overall, the delivery time from the point of goods dispatch by Chinese merchants to the lastmile delivery to overseas consumers has been reduced by close to five hours compared to last year.

2. DeJoy predicts USPS will miss its goal to break even next year November 10, 2022

The Postal Service saw a relief from legislative reforms and price increases in 2022, but still experienced a "controllable" loss due to ongoing volume declines.

The U.S. Postal Service saw its controllable losses increase by $2 billion in fiscal 2022 compared to the prior year, leaving it nearly $500 million in the red as inflationary pressures outweighed its boosted revenue. When calculating all the items on the agency’s balance sheets, including those management considers outside of its control, USPS saw a new profit of $56 billion due to the one-time cash relief from the changes in the Postal Service Reform Act. The Postal Service saw its revenue jump by nearly 2% even as mail and package volumes both continued to slide due to the high price increases it has instituted. Postal officials do not expect things to get better quickly. Roman Martinez, chair of USPS board of governors, said at a meeting on Thursday the agency faces “definite headwinds” and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy conceded he will not meet his goal of breaking even by fiscal 2023. Instead, the agency forecasted a more than $4 billion loss next year. While anticipated revenue will grow due to ongoing price hikes, already scheduled cost-of-living adjustments and transportation hikes will continue to be driven upward by inflation. That outlook could improve if the agency receives additional relief in its retirement costs, this time in how its contributions to the federal employee pension fund are calculated. Postal management has for a decade bemoaned that it is paying more than it owes and said the Biden administration can save it nearly $3 billion next year through an administrative fix. In the meantime, USPS is moving forward with many of DeJoy’s reforms to the postal network. Those changes, coupled with better equipment, new hiring and the conversions of 100,000 part-time staffers into career employees, has required USPS to hire just 20,000 temporary personnel for the upcoming peak holiday season. That is just half the total the Postal Service hired last year.

“Over the last two years we have stabilized our operations, evolved our products, improved our service, strengthened our balance sheet, halved our projected losses and motivated our employees to join us in this transformation,” DeJoy said on Thursday. President Biden’s nominees now make up a majority of the Postal Service’s nine appointed board members. The polarizing postmaster general faced little pushback at the board meeting and his fiscal 2023 financial plan won unanimous approval. DeJoy once again called on stakeholders not to resist his plans, saying he can implement his vision within five years if they comply. “While we are committed to our public service mission, we must move at the speed of private industry, if not faster, to effect this transformation before we again begin to drain our cash position,” the postmaster general said. The Postal Service ended the year with $20 billion in cash on hand, enough to carry it over for about four months. USPS made significant improvements in its performance in fiscal 2022, though it is operating within slower delivery windows than were in place when DeJoy took office. Overall, USPS delivered 93% of regular, First-Class mail on time, still short of its 95% target but an improvement of the 88.5% rate it hit last year. The farthest traveling mail saw the largest upgrade, with USPS delivering 93% of three-to-five day mail on time this year compared to 86% in fiscal 2021.

3.BVPP rejects collective bargaining offer from PostNL! November 10, 2022

This week we formally informed PostNL that the BVPP rejects the latest offer on the subjects: duration, wages, travel expenses, pension premium and the Early Retirement Scheme. It has therefore been established that

we are now in a stalemate We explain below what we as BVPP think of PostNL's offer.

Loon PostNL has used the following table in its communication to employees.

Salary scale

Wage increase

1-2

9%

3-7

8%

8 to 13

5%

PostNL applies the sum of two wage increases. In reality, of course, it looks different, namely:

Salary scale

Increase April 1 2022

Increase in July 2023

increase in pension premium 1 july 2023

1-2

45%

45%

From 6 to 7%

3 to 7

4%

4%

From 6  to 7%

8 to 13

25%

25%

From 6 to 7%

First of all, we note that this offer does not meet the lower limit of our mandate (the lower limit of the wage increase that we want to achieve). In addition, PostNL has introduced socalled “differentiation” in its offer (higher scales less wage increase than lower scales). In itself, our members are not negative about differentiation. But in this offer yes. The difference between the higher scales and the lower scales is much too great. Add to that the fact that the lower limit of our mandate is not even being met. So absolutely insufficient!

Pension

premium PostNL wants to increase the pension premium from 6% to 7% as of 1 July 2023. Although you pay pension contributions from your gross salary, this is a reduction in your salary for everyone. After all, you're going to pay more. In concrete terms, this means that the wage increases mentioned in the table are worth less than the percentages in the table above. You pay pension contributions on your annual salary minus a franchise amount. This means that employees in higher scales will pay a relatively higher premium and it is precisely there that PostNL wants to give less wage increase than in other scales. They will then be hit twice. In addition, we are currently discussing a new pension scheme (which must take effect no later than 2026) and as BVPP we will not make any agreements about the employee premium at this time. We also find it incomprehensible that PostNL uses the word “ only ” in its communication with regard to the decrease in net wages. This in a period when most people turn every euro a few times before spending it.

Travel costs from home to work

Early Retirement Scheme (RVU)

PostNL has proposed improvements to this scheme. On the one hand, by increasing the payment from 80 to 85% of the Statutory Minimum Wage (WML). On the other hand, the Statutory Minimum Wage will increase by 10.15% as of 1 January 2023, so that the increase is more than 5%, namely about 17%. That is of course an improvement. PostNL is also proposing a reduction for postmen and other employees in terms of years of service. The BVPP believes that the benefit may increase even more and the number of years of service to participate may be further reduced.

In its communication, PostNL indicates that they want to increase the travel costs table in the collective labor agreement. At the moment, PostNL is allowed to pay € 0.19 per kilometer net and they also apply this in accordance with the applicable tax rules. As of 1 January 2023, this net allowance may be increased to € 0.21 per kilometre and as of 1 January 2024 to € 0.22 per kilometre. PostNL proposes to follow this tax exemption, which is therefore an improvement in travel costs. However, the BVPP has also proposed to increase the maximum number of days that PostNL reimburses the costs from 4 to 5 days. Many employees have travelled more in recent years due to the relocations and therefore incur more costs. So yes the increases are a step in the right direction, but we are not there yet.

What now? When both parties are in a stalemate, it is difficult to get out. Although the BVPP is in favor of finding a solution through the dialogue with PostNL, this is now impossible because PostNL does not move enough! This has resulted in a stalemate. We are currently collecting the willingness to take action from our members and have now set up an action committee. When there is sufficient willingness to take action within the members, we start with actions. Because, what we want is for employees from scale 1 to 13 to receive a working conditions proposal that they can say YES to.

4.The planning of Posti's new logistics center is progressing:

negotiations on the location of the center will proceed with Akaa, Hämeenlinna and Janakkala November 09, 2022 We plan to invest more than EUR 100 million in a new logistics center in Southern Finland. As part of the planning phase, we will continue our negotiations and further investigations regarding the location of our logistics center with Akaa, Hämeenlinna and Janakkala.

We will make an investment decision on the possible implementation of the logistics center by 2023 at the earliest, once the planning is further along. At the earliest, the new logistics center would start its operations in the second half of this decade. So far, we have mapped out municipalities and cities interested in the construction project in Southern Finland. “We revealed right at the beginning of the project that we were looking at Southern Finland to find a location for our new logistics center. We received several plot offers from different parts of Finland, and we are grateful for all these offers. At this point, we will continue our negotiations and further investigations with Akaa, Hämeenlinna and Janakkala. Finding the most suitable location for the logistics center is absolutely essential for us, which is why we don’t want to rush the process. We are now examining these options in greater depth. The project is still in the planning stages, and any investment decisions will be made next year at the earliest,” says Jari Perälä, who manages the project.

Towards a sustainable future

The location of the possible construction site depends, first and foremost, on its central location, the suitability of the area and how well Posti's sustainable development goals can be achieved there. For example, taking energy efficiency into account is at the heart of the planning process. “We want to find a solution that will be sustainable for decades to come from the perspective of both the personnel and the environment. The investment in line with our strategy would support e-commerce growth, which is a market anticipated to double in size in Finland by the end of this decade. The new logistics center would strengthen our ability to deliver efficient, fast and optimized services according to our customers' needs, taking into account the entire value chain of e-commerce logistics,” says Perälä.

5.PostNL reports normalised EBIT of €(20) million for Q3 2022 November 07, 2022

High inflation and low consumer confidence put pressure on consumer spending and growth expectations for e-commerce, and impact cost levels significantly

▪ Domestic volume growth at Parcels around 1%; overall volumes -1.1%, driven by decline in cross-border activities ▪ Volumes at Mail in the Netherlands -9.3% in line with expectations ▪ Free cash flow performance reflects step-down in normalised EBIT and phasing in working capital ▪ 23% improvement in carbon efficiency since end of 2021

CEO statement

Herna Verhagen, CEO of PostNL, said: "The macroeconomic environment has deteriorated and is causing further headwinds. The unprecedentedly high level of inflation puts further pressure on labour costs. In combination with low consumer confidence it has clearly impacted consumer spending. Retail shops as well as webshops are now signalling that their stocks are growing. We expect these headwinds to continue in the quarters to come, causing prolonged uncertainty. "We are continuing to adjust our network capacity to volumes within the limits of the tight labour market, so as to maintain the necessary flexibility for our peak season and to safeguard customer and consumer service levels. As usual, we are prepared for a busy season with volumes at Parcels expected to be more or less in line with last year. On peak days, we are ready to deliver twice as many parcels than on a normal day. And of course we also expect to deliver a large number of seasonal greetings. Q4 will be the strongest quarter of the year and the key driver for our full year performance. "Securing the company’s robust financial position is key for us in this challenging environment. We are taking all necessary measures to mitigate the impact from cost increases and a softer than anticipated volume development. Moreover, we are adjusting investments to align with volumes and manage working capital strictly."

1.CEO Del Fante to Corriere della Sera: “Poste, a record nine months. Forward with services and digital" November 11, 2022

The CEO Del Fante, after the presentation of the accounts showing the solid performance of Poste in the third quarter, was interviewed by Andrea Ducci of Corriere della Sera

Poste Italiane CEO Matteo Del Fante, after the presentation of the third quarter accounts , gave an interview to Corriere della Sera, signed by Andrea Ducci, in which he commented on the Group's record numbers and explained the next steps in the areas of operation of the Company. "We are by far the largest investors in Italian government bonds - explains the CEO - which today have a high yield: this has given us a big hand, especially compared to the last five years".

Stronger than inflation

For now, inflation does not seem to have a significant impact on Poste Italiane's accounts: “There has been an impact because our fleet, the largest in Europe, buys fuel, but for the rest, although we are large consumers of electricity and of gas, we benefit from the contracts signed during the pandemic. These are agreements defined when the entire world economy was blocked and energy was very cheap. At that moment we bought energy for the longest possible time horizon, i.e. up to mid-2023”, says Del Fante.

Results and guidance

The figure that characterizes the quarter is that relating to the operating result, which touches 2.1 billion and allows Poste to review the guidance, that is the 2022 objectives, bringing the overall operating result to 2.3 billion euros. Are there other results indicated in the business plan that are destined to change and to be subject to reconsideration? “That figure - says the CEO of Poste - summarizes our performance and includes the sum of the four areas of operation of the company, which have given important individual contributions. Other indications are not foreseen for the moment ".

The range of insurance services

On the insurance services front, Del Fante explains that an increase of Poste's current stake in Anima is not in sight and explains that now there are no other sectors in the Company's objective in the insurance segment: "At the moment we have no other objectives . We can count on a very wide range of offers. Now it is a question of gradually increasing our market shares in a world of a few very large operators and, therefore, the road is certainly uphill. But we got off to a good start: this is the third consecutive year in which we have significantly increased non-life premiums".

Payments and medicines at home

As regards payment services, the next few months will instead be used for the implementation and integration of LIS within the group: “This is one of the great matches we have ahead of us: it is a very widespread network, with 55,000 points, and for us it is crucial that it is integrated in the best possible way in our post office network. The objective of the integration is to consolidate PostePay's role in payment services ". Among the innovations that characterized the activity of 2022 there was also the launch in 170 municipalities of home delivery of medicines. Will the service be extended? “This is a strategic issue because all countries suffer from the decline in correspondence. We have fewer and fewer products to deliver and it remains essential to find "new jobs" for our postmen. With the drug delivery project we are carrying out a test that is a first step to deliver the temperature-controlled drugs to Italians' homes, ”says Del Fante.

Del Fante: "Energy launch will be a very important moment"

On the subject of energy - writes the Corriere della Sera - there is talk of an offer of energy supply contracts that can be signed at post offices: "We have not yet given an official launch date - concludes Del Fante - however we can say that it will be in the very first months of 2023. It will be a very important moment for the company, which will have to guarantee this type of service with transparency and at very competitive costs”.

bpost makes parcel shipping even easier and even cheaper for small and mid-sized enterprises with the launch of a new tailored service with a whole host of advantages. The new service is specifically targeted at businesses that ship fewer than 1000 parcels per year.

Nowadays, it is not just the big e-commerce companies who sell products and services online. More and more SMEs are taking orders online and shipping parcels to their customers on a regular basis. 5.Extended MOU now includes job audits to increase clerk craft work November 07, 2022

On November 4, 2022, the parties agreed to extend the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Re: Bulk Mail Tech and Mailing Requirements Clerk Position Qualification. This MOU originated during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been extended on several occasions, leading to the latest agreement to continue it for one year from the signing of the agreement. The MOU establishes the required training for employees bidding to Bulk Mail Tech and Mailing Requirements Clerk duty assignments, including the number of hours for classroom training and on-the-job training.

For the first time, this MOU adds an agreement to jointly review the following positions for the purpose of identifying the work performed by each position and if work currently being performed by Executive and Administrative Schedule (EAS) employees should instead be performed by clerk bargaining unit employees:

▪ Bulk Mail Technician ▪ Mailing Requirements Clerk ▪ Supervisor, Mail & Shipping Solutions Center ▪ Mailing Standards Specialist ▪ Supervisor, Mail Entry

The joint review will be conducted by six (6) Bulk Mail Techs and six (6) Mailing Requirements Clerks, as chosen by the APWU, and EAS employees as determined by the Postal Service. The Bulk Mail Techs and Mailing Requirements Clerks who are selected will be released from their regular duties as necessary to “fully participate in the activities associated with the joint position review process”. In addition, any training and/or travel expenses will be paid if needed for the joint review. “The addition of the position review to this MOU is yet another reflection of the Clerk Craft’s commitment to capture as much work for our craft as possible,” explained APWU Clerk Craft Director Lamont Brooks. “We believe that many of the duties currently performed by EAS employees belong to the bargaining unit” Brooks added, “and the review will also hopefully help to more clearly identify the dividing line between Bulk Mail Tech duties and Mailing Requirements Clerk duties.” The position review will begin no later than January 27, 2023 and conclude no later than May 5, 2023.
