The seminar was started with the welcome remarks by Bro. Milind Nadkarni, President, UNI-ILC, and then appreciation remarks by representatives of UNI-LCJ Bro. Mamoru Takashiro, ICTJ Japan.
After introduction of indian participants and group photo a relevant keynote speech by Mr. GB Gawde, Director, Ambedkar Institute of Labour Studies in the topic of "Today's challenges faced by Unions".
▶ Only 6-7% of workers are organized in india
▶Low Membership
▶96% of unions not submitting thier annual report to the govt.
▶Outsourcing
▶Politicalization
▶Weak Financial position
▶Lack of interest of members
▶Digital industry, Construction sectors, contract labours etc are not not organized
▶60% of our workers are now contract workers.
▶Absence of collective bargaining such as Shunto in Japan.
He advised to utilize the following solutions to overcome it.
▶Dont work within the boundaries
▶Use different angle's
▶Be positive always
▶Gain the power
▶Support from people and Media
▶Lack of Representative from trade union in the Parliament.
▶Conduct Indian Labour Conference, which was not conducting in the past 4 years.
